Apple has Flipped the Script!
Exactly 40 years ago, on January 24th 1984, Apple Computer released an iconic television commercial during the Super Bowl, introducing the first Apple Macintosh computer. Based upon a scene in George Orwell’s dystopian novel, titled “1984” (released in 1949), the commercial presented Apple in a sort of David vs. Goliath scenario, alluding to the entire computer industry (or at least IBM) as the villain, Big Brother, and Apple as the lone freedom fighter.
40 years later, I believe i’ve updated Apple’s commercial to more accurately represent the current state of Big Tech, most especially considering Apple’s trend setting influences of closed systems and control; and with timely respect to the roll-out of perhaps Apple’s most controversial hardware release, to date, Vision Pro! Throughout all of this, Apple manages to maintain a shiny clean image based upon their original ethos, to which they are no longer deserving. Unless you have unlimited budget or disconcern for your data, then Apple products need to be approached with caution. Perhaps if we start to shame them and circulate petitions… might they change their ways? Ha!
